Present Ministries
![]() We gather on Sundays (10:30 a.m.) and on special occasions to praise and to worship our loving God who came to us in the human form of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and who lives in us as the Holy Spirit. Together we share in fellowship, music, prayer, scripture, an action provoking message, a time of offering, and the Lord's Supper. Each Sunday, as part of the worship service, we include our younger members in a Children's Moment using scripture and prayer. Following the Children's Moment, the children age 3 - grade 3 go to our new Children Worship & Wonder center where they experience Bible stories and feel the presence of our Creator, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. A Chancel Choir performs during the Christmas season and the Easter season. Adults and youth are in our choir. We offer learning opportunities for people of all ages to share and to grow in faith and understanding of how we are to live as Christians. (Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m.) Bible Study is on TUESDAY evenings at 7:00 p.m. We take breaks June-August and over Christmas. Disciples' tradition is to help facilitate one's own understanding and interpretation of the scripture, providing guidance on the historic, cultural, and literary context of the passage. Open discussion is encouraged. The Walk of Faith study is WEDNESDAY evenings at 7:00 p.m. for 6 weeks in the Fall and 6 weeks during Lent in the Spring. We seek to provide a safe, nuturing environment for children through Sunday School, "Children's Moment" (a time during worship just for them), Children Worship & Wonder Center (age 3 - grade 3), Kids Youth Fellowship Group (KYF for grades 1-6 meeting twice each month), Vacation Bible School, and a nursery that's available whenever we worship at the church. Children have an opportunity to serve through various mission projects and lighting worship candles. We also seek to provide a safe, nuturing environment for youth through Sunday School and our Jesus' Older Youth Group (JOY for grades 7-12) and our Kids Youth Fellowship (KYF for grades 1-6). Youth have an opportunity to serve through various mission projects, the Junior Deacon program, lighting worship candles, helping lead at Vacation Bible School, and occasionally leading the Sunday traditional worship service. We provide food and "necessities" to anyone in need through a community-wide food pantry maintained at our church. This is truly a ministry of the community for the community - not only in Lone Jack, but the surrounding communities as well. The Helping Hands Food Pantry is seldom fully stocked - not due to lack of thoughtful contributors, but due to the growing need. If you need assistance from, or can provide assistance to this pantry, please contact us by email (button located on left side of our home page) or call 816-697-2985. Food Pantry Board meets quarterly the 3rd Monday in Jan., April, July, and Oct. at 7:00 p.m. We are pleased to be a part of "Project Linus", a ministry of numerous small groups that make quilts (security blankets) for sick, injured and traumatized children. Anyone can volunteer your time, talent or treasures! Make a blanket and drop it off at the church, or join in the fun at our quilt making sessions. The Lone Jack Group meets at our church the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. Use West basement door entrance. Contact Mary Yates, 697-3400, for more information. We are always looking for new ways to serve - either through supporting a mission or being in mission ourselves. We provide ongoing financial and spiritual support to a missionary family in Brazil and to the Disciples Mission Fund which provides support to the many ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the U.S. and around the world. We also give money to Church World Service and their Tools of Hope program which provides food, blankets, medical care, tools, wells, seeds, farm animals, and disaster relief around the world. Currently, our local missions/ministries include the two mentioned above: Project Linus and the Helping Hands Food Pantry. We are a praying community with prayer lists, prayer chains, and prayer services as needed. Please use the "Prayer and Prayer request" button found on the left side of our homepage to offer or request prayer (or) send us an email. Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love me, Peter?" Then said, "Then feed my sheep...Care for my flock...Feed my sheep". In addition to the pastoral care provided by our minister, everyone in our church family is assigned to a "shepherd" who can be a source of comfort and encouragement. We have a COFFEE FELLOWSHIP on Sundays following worship. Coffee, juice and a simple snack are provided. Guests and members alike are invited to attend. Some months have a 5th Sunday. We take these opportunities to have a potluck FELLOWSHIP DINNER following the Worship Service (usually around 11:45 a.m.). These dinners not only provide an opportunity to enjoy food and fellowship, but often have a theme that is informative and fun. We also enjoy special fellowship activites during the various seasons of the year. Our Singles Group provides an opportunity for single adults to meet as a group and fellowship together. For more information contact the church office. Watch the calendar for Singles' Group activities. Evangelism and Initiation Focus is reaching out beyond ourselves to the surrounding community, sharing the Good News of God's saving grace and providing information about our church and ministries. Community and Fellowship Focus is care, concern and fellowship within the church family. The prayer circle, shepherding ministry and fellowship dinners fall under this ministry team. Worship and Discipleship Focus is deepening and broadening our faith journeys through various forms of worship, spiritual growth, Christian education, Bible study, and small group interactions where a faith that works can be nurtured and developed. Stewardship and Service Focus is faithfulness in missions and resources. We support global missions of missionaries in Brazil, the Disciples Mission Fund, and Church World Service. Our local donations include the Helping Hands Food Pantry, as well as effective management of resources. All these ministries fall under this ministry team. ![]() |
