Good afternoon, The president, Leslie Caplan, of Newhouse, wanted me to find organizations that could help the children and women at our shelter. Newhouse is a shelter that empowers women and children that are battered or that have dealt with domestic violence. She would like to know if there are any programs with the Disciples of Christ that can come in and work with our children even though we do know that there will be several children in transition that will move into their own home and would like to continue to be apart of the program. We are looking for any programs where there is donated food, clothing, furniture for our clients or someone can come in and help plant and care for a garden, or teach our women and children to be gardeners or even support our work in the community in any way if possible. We also go out in the community and churches have speaker bureau’s engagements. We have a cell phone fundraiser, which is tax deductible for an organization or individual. We will recycle the cells phones for parts to raise money to help the families in our shelter and we refurbish the phones so that the women can dial 911 in case of an emergency. We do accept volunteers to help in several areas of the shelter, such as working with the women, children, in the kitchen or maintenance projects, the faith community, fundraising and events and the reception area.
